They say no single food can make us lose weight, and so it means a single food group is not enough to help us with our weight reduction program. We know that our bodies do not actually burn all the calories we have, so some of these unused calories become bad cholesterol and also turn into body fats. Meat is a constant companion on the menu as well as the dairy products and processed foods and these are all very rich with cholesterol. Once cholesterol starts to build up and we continue eating fat enriched foods, this is where the problem sets in.

Almost all the food we eat everyday contain fats and cholesterol, but did you know that you can also have foods that are effective for losing weights? Weight loss foods help reduce calories that are stored in our body and flush them out from our system. Fruits and vegetable contains no fats and cholesterol and are very good in helping to lose weight and detoxify the body. Once we include them in our diet they remove some of the fats that are lodged in our system.

Then there are foods that are rich in fiber. High fiber foods such as bread from whole grains and oats also flush out toxins from our body and eliminate excess calories from our digestive system. Also foods that are high in water content are considered excellent foods to help us lose weight. Fresh fruits are the nature’s best weight loss foods because fruits are low in calories and contain high amount of water. Generally the best foods for weight loss should be:
  • High in fiber
  • Low in fat content but high in quality protein
  • Low in sugars but with high water content
  • Low in sodium
  • Fresh natural food

While these foods can reduce our stored body fat it does not mean we will be limiting ourselves to certain food groups. There are also good foods that can help us not to gain weight and these are:
  1. Legumes
  2. Whole grain foods such as oatmeal, muesli, bread
  3. Baked potato
  4. Vegetables
  5. Fruits
  6. Fresh fish
  7. Cooked brown rice
So you see, weight loss foods can also be just the ordinary foods we consume almost everyday. They can also be our ordinary meals, but only free from fats and low in protein. If you love chicken meat and beef, well you better switch to other meats that are healthier such as tuna, soya processed meat, turkey and pasta with only small salt.

These are only a few examples but there are always foods especially good for those who want to lose those extra pounds. Search the internet or consult a dietician if you want assurance that what you eat reduce your weight. Just a reminder for those who limit themselves to food since you are now enthusiastic on keeping your weight maintained - put yourself with other weight reduction activities like exercise programs to burn the extra calories you intake.
